Watermelon is cultivated in the yellow clay fields, famously rich soil of Okdong in SejongTaesilji Island. The Okdong watermelon is loved for their thin rind and sweet red-flesh. It has diuretic effect and assists to remit inflammation with the kidneys. It also helps detoxification, including alcohol poisoning, and fast relief from fatigue. The high quality Okdong watermelon is exported to Japan.

Nutritional Fact

Watermelon is everyone's favorite summer fruit. Depending on the regions, some wild types are used for juice, animal feeds, or for medicinal purpose, but most agricultural species are eaten raw in summer.

Subakwhache, watermelon fruit punch, is favored dissert in Korea. In China, watermelon seeds are consumed for various dishes. In Africa, watermelon seed oil is extracted by pressing from its seeds.

Watermelon is loaded with water (91%) and glucides, consisting of fructose and glucose mostly. Therefore, it helps hydrate one's body fast and supports fast relief from fatigue. In addition to glucides, watermelon has various minerals and vitamins A and C, which makes watermelon a nutritional powerhouse. Watermelon seed also has nutritional importance as it contains not only glucides, but also good amount of protein, healthy fat, and vitamin B complex.
